What’s in my Makeup Bag

26 Feb

I tend to switch up items from my makeup bag  regularly. Am not the type to stock up lipgloss upon lipgloss.Basically, I just bring whatever it is I’m wearing that day. And here’s what I have for today..

still got space in there...

First of my makeup bag…

I got this from the SM Department store almost 2yrs now for just Php100+. The character’s name is Kuromi, the antagonist from Sanrio’s My Melody. I just love that it’s black and the colorful skulls plus it looks like she’s giving the finger HAHA! I think it’s really cool and cute. I love love my makeup bag ❤ ❤

Now let’s see what’s inside..

TADANG!!

And now for my “touch up routine” which I do after lunch or before dinner..

1. Kleenex – Blotting  sheets which is THE best blotting sheet ever.

2. EOS lipbalm in Summer Fruit

3. Marinaud Retractable Brush – which I highly recommend every makeup bag should have. It’s more hygenic than sponges or the regular brush that don’t have covers that lies in your makeup bag for hours collecting bacteria 😛

4. Skin 79 BB pact – which I did a review here.

5. Maybelline Mineral Blush in Rose

6. Elf bronzer

7. Elf Shimmer Facial whip in Lilac Petal

8. Careline Lipgloss in 01

9. Lioele Metome Eraser Pen – usually for eyeliner smears.

That’s it. Please respond with what’s inside your makeup bag. I’d like to see them ^_^

Review: Stila Stunning in Sayulita

18 Feb

i did promise to review this on my “Christmas Gift” post so here it is ^_^

Here are the swatches:

1. Starfish – lightest shimmer color

2. Sandbar – taupe

3. Gateway – champagne color

4. Palm Trees – golden green color

5. Playa – matte blush

6. Banderas Bay – highlight color

Pros:

  • cute and slick packaging
  • has bigass mirror
  • lovely colors
  • fairly cheap for a highend makeup. This was a gift but I think this retails for around Php700+

Cons

  • applying eye primer first is recommended to bring out it’s vibrance
  • the blush doesn’t show up on my skin tone. (i had to swatch it 3 to 4 times just to show it up in the photo)

Overall, I’m liking this palette. I read some reviews saying that these are bit chalky which I think so too so applying a good primer first is advisable. On the contrary, the blush and highlighter are really creamy. I also find it wierd that the “Starfish” and “Banderas Bay” are like dupe of each other. I’ve only used “Starfish” and “Sandbar” so far and I’m loving them. I’m also curious if “Sandbar” can be a dupe of the famous “Satin Taupe” from MAC…. does anyone know??

Cheers,

Review: Sephora Buildable Cover Kit (Tan)

17 Dec

I had this for almost a year now and I’m about to hit pan so I decided it’s just about time I ‘feature’ this product in my blog ^_^

Kit Includes:

  • Mineral Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Primer
  • Concealer Brush
  • Powder Brush
  • Double Sided Sponge

I’ll do my review collectively because it wld take a very long post to review each obviously. Just shoot me a comment if you have questions.

ok, i see that "about to hit the pan" earlier is an understatement -.-

Pros:

  • Smooth coverage
  • I LUUURVVE the concealer. It’s my favorite EVURRRR!! love the matte-but-not-cakey finish. Excellent coverage ❤
  • If you’re from the US the price is definitely a pro because you are apparently getting $78 worth of products for $34…and that was a year ago. Now, its $22 $.$

  • I am also loving the primer ^_^ REALLY smooth and silky application but NOT AT ALL oily. Really mattifies my face and preps my face for smoother foundation application. It’s just travel size though (0.27 oz), but that just makes it perfect if you need a primer on the go ^_^

Cons:

  • Not available locally
  • The foundation is a tad bit darker for my liking (I’m a morena but on the lighter side, kinda like Toni Gonzaga back in the days)
  • man, she's so white now. boo! hate bein kayumanggi, girl?? not cool

  • The brush are too small but that makes it OK for travel. Haven’t used mine though so I really can’t tell how they work, sorry

abt the sponge: you are supposed to use the light side for light coverage and dark one for fuller coverage

Overall, it’s a very good product. Just how you wld expect a high end product should be. However, I don’t see myself repurchasing this because aside from the fact that it’s not available here in the Phils, there was a time that I THINK I broke out from this…not sure though. But I’m quite curious how the “Light” color would look on me ^_^

Disclaimer Time:

  • Not sponsored by Sephora. You could learn more about this product and Sephora here
  • Toni’s pic from Google and “Sephora Collection” image from http://www.sephora.com/
  • I heart Toni. she’s talented and I wld die to have legs like hers 😛

Gel vs. Cream Eyeliner

29 Oct

Ok this is not actually a “BATTLE” but more of a “know how” to tell difference between a gel and a cream liner. Visually, you cannot. Unlike with pencil and liquid……..of course 😛

sorry my gel liner looks all beat up -.-

You really can’t tell unless you used it. You even can’t tell by swatching. It’s when you have applied it you can actually tell the difference . Since I’ve thrown away both boxes, I tried googling the contents of both to give this post an intellectual touch but I can’t seem to find a  sufficient one so let’s just drop that and get on with WHAT-RHEN-THINKS shall we???:P

this pic doesn't help at all, just did it for the sake of swatching it:P

**lets refer to Cream Liner as CL and GL for Gel Liner since I’ll be mentioning them a lot it’ll be irritating to read 😛

1. CL is harder to work on than GL. A lot of product get in the brush and if you don’t have steady hands it could really get messy. The first times I’ve used CL I always end up with really thick and dramatic eyeliner which I don’t like. The effective way of using this is by LIGHTLY dabbing the angled brush in the jar and then using patting motion to SLOWLY build it up. It takes patience at first but it’ll get better once you get used to it of course.

GL on the otherhand is much easier to use. You can just dab the product in your lash line and glide the brush to your desired shape. GL is perfect for beginners 🙂

2. If you want a ‘twinkling eye’ effect, go with the CL since it’s glossier but GL works better for smokey eyes 😀

3. CL on your brush tends to get a little tougher to clean than GL.

…I’d like to say that CL has more staying power than GL because with that swatch on the picture, when I washed my hand CL stayed clean and slick while GL was already gone. I didn’t have the same problem when applied though. It could be the brand or it’s just that my gel liner is really old and kinda dried up 😛 I personally think they both have the same staying power.

that’s it! Hope this helps.

Haul: Watsons

28 Oct

here in the Philippines, 'Watsons' is (usu)located inside SM dept store

I LOVE shopping at Watsons…it’s a one stop shop for your every beauty need. Here are pictures from a recent haulage^_^

its amazing how much drugstore stuff you cld buy from the price of a single highend makeup ^_^

Hair Stuff:

Golden Fabulouz Coconut Hot Oil Cream–  Here’s a thing about me…I don’t use conditioner regularly, instead..I use hair spa or hot oil creams. Got these 2 150g jar for Php99. Yup. It’s on ‘buy 1 take 1 promo’ so I didn’t have a choice HAHA! I might giveaway the other jar…you like?? ^_^

Another thing about my ‘haircare’ is that I just use the cheapest shampoos out there. So since Palmolive shampoo is a ‘Cosmo Awardee’, I just got that 🙂

Pure Beauty Treatment Hair Care Oil (Php183 for 60ml) which is just a hair serum. I’ve always wanted to buy this eversince I got the Pure Beauty Treatment Essence Water one. And because I think the packaging is just lovely ❤ I might do a review on both products in the future ^_^

Makeup:

Wet n Wild Color Icon in Pride (Php499)-I’ve been itching to get this eversince I got the ‘Vanity’ one plus I think the navy blues here will be great for smokey eyes and since I have a wedding to attend to next month, I think its about time I finally get this ^_^

4U2 Gemtone in Onyx (Php424) which is just a basic grays quad. It kinda have a metallic sheen to it which I think  would also work in the smokey eyes I am planning to do^_^

Fashion 21 single eyeshadow (Php65)  There’s a ‘backup look’ I’m planning just in case the smokey eye I’m planning would not work with these products. It involves the green in the Wet n Wild pride and an orange eyeshadow…intrigued???:P

Careline lipgloss in shade 01 which is just a natural pink color. I’d really wanted to collect all their lipglosses because I love the clear one I bought months ago. They are uber cheap (Php75) but I changed my mind because I can’t stand the smell -.-‘. The color’s very nice though, so if you are not that “maarte” with scents then I highly recommend Careline Lipglosses:)

Careline Glitter Liner in Clear. I’ve been wanting to do the ‘teary eyed’ look which is famous in Asia nowadays so I’ve been searching for tthe perfect glitter liner. I wanted to get the Mojolica Majorca one around Php500 then  Etude House Php300+ BUT luckily I saw this which costs Php105 ^_^ WINNER!!!

Pure Beauty Soothing BB Cream. I know I just did a review on the Skin79 one and I am STILL using that but I need another one for backup. I was searching for a cheap one  so I got this for Php199. At first I wasn’t expecting much for it’s price but changed right after I tried it out. I will do a separate review on this 😀

Random:

Pure Beauty Eyecream (Php109). I am currently using Olay Total Effects eyecream but again, I just needed something cheap for backup. The packaging reminds me of the TonyMoly one… actually the whole line does. I’m thinking of getting all for future giveaway…you like?? 😀

PH Care Intimate wash… doI need to elaborate in this??? 😛

And because I spent Php1500+ on shopping so they gave me this tumbler and magazine for free 😀

Let me know if you want a more detailed review of the products mentioned.

Battle: Mascara

26 Oct

Another thing I’ll be doing a lot in this blog are the “Battles” ^_^ This is where you see popular (or not) products battle it out to see which one is better than the other 😀 I think its good to give you an overall view comparison of stuff instead of reviewing them individually. So for  our first battle we are doing Mascaras…

Covergirl LashBlast, Maybelline Volume Express and L’Oreal Telescopic Clean. All in color black and under Php500..Cause we don’t need spending much on mascaras since we are supposed to change every 3 months.

LashBlast, Volum Express, Telescopic Clean

* 1 is the highest

LashBlast Volum Express Telescopic Clean
non-clumping 1 3 2
holds curl 3 1 2
smudge proof 2 1 3
waterproof no yes no
blackest 3 2 1
scent 3 1 2
lengthening 3 1 2
volumizing 3 2 1

Last Note:
LashBlast – non-clumping and non dramatic perfect for everyday use
Volum Express – REALLY lengthening. I love the comb like applicator <3…I wish they would make more mascara wands like this
Telescopic clean – the short bristles and thin wand makes it perfect for lower lashes.

I hope this helps you choosing your next mascara. If you have more questions feel free to comment below ^_^
